Q1. Problems Installing Ink -

Remove and discard the yellow inner packing material. Remove the protective tape from the base of the cartridge. Ensure the base of the new cartridge is aligned with the ink slot in the machine before pushing the top of the cartridge in.


Q2. I have forgotten to remove the tape from my ink cartridge –

Once the ink has been installed it is not possible to remove the ink cartridge until the install process has completed

The only times during the install that require you to perform a print are:

Performing a test print after the machine has finished installing the cartridge

An optional step to print a receipt after adding postage funds to the meter for the first time

Both can be performed after the machine has completed the install


To remove the ink cartridge:

1) When the machine is showing the date and value screen, lift cover and wait 5 seconds before closing

2) The display will now show “Install new cartridge?” – Press Enter/Yes and follow the instructions under the lid


To print a receipt after the install:

1) When the machine is showing the date and value screen, press Options

2) Press Review ?until display shows “Select a Report?”, press Enter/Yes

3) The display will now show “Print refill report?”, press Enter/Yes and insert an envelope or label to print

4) Once printed press No to return to the date and value screen


Q3. No Dial Tone -

Check that you are using an analogue line such as:

a) Fax lines

b) Lines used by modems or credit card readers

c) Residential phone lines

Check that you have entered a dialling prefix if your phone system needs a code to reach an outside line.


Q4. Cannot Reach Data Centre -

Check that you have entered a dialling prefix if your phone system needs a code to reach an outside line.


Q5. Not Enough Funds -

You have tried to add more postage than you have in your Postage by Phone account


Q6. Ad / Logo is not available –

Any Ads ordered will be available for download within 10 working days of delivery of your machine. If you cannot see the Ad you want, it is possible that it is not yet available for your system to download. You can continue using your machine, but you will need to connect to the Data Centre again at a later date to download your Ad

To connect to the Data Centre:

1) Connect your meter to an analogue phone line

2) Press Options and use Review ?? until display shows “Connect to Pitney Bowes?”, press Enter/Yes

3) Your system will dial the Data Centre and tell you if of any downloads available

4) Follows the on-screen prompts to start the downloads. When complete press Enter/Yes to return to the date and value screen

Q7. How to frank a basic letter -

Insert your envelope or tape sheet/label into the slot at the base of the machine lining up the right hand edge with the right hand edge of the registration wall as per the below image.

Please note you may wish to set your postage amount to zero if this is a test frank.
